- 1. SPACE SHUTTLE: Name four parts of shuttle and each part's function.
- 2. TRACKING IT ALL DOWN: Students construct the Tracking Data Relay
Satellite System to help them understand how it works.
- 3. VOYAGER ACTIVITY: Students build a model of the spacecraft, Voyager,
and study the planets it has explored.
- 4. GALILEO: Students construct the spacecraft, Voyager, and find out
what we have learned about Jupiter.
- 5. NSCAT AND TOPEX (OCEAN OBSERVATION SYSTEMS): Understand how these
spacecraft contribute to improved understanding of world climate.
- 6. PERSONAL HYGIENE STATION: Students build the personal hygiene station
that is on the shuttle.
- 7. FEASTING IN SPACE: Students plan a menu for a 5-day mission. They
will total the amount of calories to see that they are getting the
amount required in space.
- 8. FLUIDS AND GRAVITY: Helps students understand that fluids are acted
upon by gravity.
- 9/10. BROKEN PENCIL AND GHOST CRYSTALS: Both help students understand
light refraction.
- 11. YOU ARE NOW LEAVING THE O-ZONE: Activity that helps students
understand the importance of gases in the atmosphere.
- 12. CREWS' CLOTHING ACTIVITY, CLEANING ACTIVITY: Students understand how
astronauts live in space.
- 13. SPACE ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH STUDENTS:
A. Do a time capsule.
B. Build a lunar rover.
C. Do a shuttle and rocket launch.
- 14. SPACE Z'S: Students build a model of the sleeping system on the real
shuttle to help them understand how astronauts sleep.
